Excess office donation

This is for the kids, to read someday.  I think they're too young to fully appreciate it now.

Whenever there's a "gift collection" at work for a birthday, retirement, illness, or whatever -- I always put in about three(?) times what "normal" people put in.  (I have a standard amount.)

My reasoning is that my excess donation inflates the total, which then gives the recipient the impression of a greater number of supportive people.  This, presumably, makes the recipient happier, and/or feel more cared for.  This is a good thing.

I'm willing to spend a bit extra, if it makes someone happy.

My Stylophone timeline

November 2009 (approx.):  Saw the below Molly Lewis cover of Lady GaGa's "Poker Face" on YouTube; decided I wanted a Stylophone (see 0:47).

12 December 2009:  Added MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” to my (exceedingly long!) list of "Songs to Cover... Eventually".  Notes include:  maybe use a Stylophone for the main riff.

24 January 2011:  Mail-ordered a Stylophone from a "neat-o things" Australian website; showed up in the mail after a few days.

Late January 2011:  Played the Stylophone once; found the interface awkward (poking the flat keyboard with a stylus); put it back in the box.

17 Oct 2016:  In our "Room of Boxes", where I do my music things, ventured into a rarely-visited corner; saw the Stylophone on top of a pile of boxes; realized I had not touched it in (literally) years; decided that there's little point in me keeping it.

18 Oct 2016 (morning):  Gave the Stylophone to a co-worker "Notesy", with whom I occasionally geek out about synths and other musical gear; he's far more likely to actually use it than me -- and at the very least, he'll appreciate it (he certainly seemed appreciative at the time; knew what it was from the photo on the box, even though I had the name intentionally covered up).

18 Oct 2016 (evening):  Typed up this timeline; realized that it wasn't just "a few years" that I'd not used the Stylophone -- it was more than five years; yep.

E-mail thread

My co-worker CC'd me on a graph I'd made about a week ago.  Then we were witty.

======================================

Me:  Hey!  I remember that graph…!!!  :)

Bike Tragic:  “Fruits of your mastery” and all that.  :)

Me:  LOL!  :)

Better than being “Master of all Fruits”.   (Kind of like “Lord of the Jungle”, but with a horticultural spin.)

Bike Tragic:   Or “Fruity master of all”.

Me:  That would make an intriguing bumper sticker.

I invented a word

Asked a co-worker how she was doing; she said “Oh... OK.”  And she wasn't her usual cheerful self when she said it.

I said that was too bad -- she deserves better than that: she deserves to be extrabulous.

“Extrabulous” = “Extraordinary” + “Fabulous”

I enjoy portmanteaus.  :)

Good day in the new building

To recap, after my original work unit was dissolved by the new government, the twelve of us were scattered to the winds.  Most of them were re-assigned to another government building -- although in different departments and on different floors.  But one co-worker (DP) and myself were assigned to a different building.  And another co-worker (LK) was sent to yet another building, several blocks away.

Our re-location now means that we are in the same building as most of our former colleagues.  And DP and LK are together in the same suite of pods.

Our proximity to our old co-workers was driven home today when I randomly crossed paths with VJ, JdS, and NS today.  So, including DP and LK (mentioned above), I saw half of our old group today.  Pretty neat-o!   :)
