Aussie authenticity
I've lived here in Aussie-land for nearly five years. I just realized, as I greeted a co-worker in passing, out in the hall, that I can say "G'day" without feeling like a poseur.
Interesting. Here in the US, I have no problem saying "rubbish" or "cheerio" or "good on ya" or even "eh" whenever I feel like it. But I think if I accidentally said them in my travels to England, Australia, or Canada, I would feel uncomfortable. Maybe it's this fear that keeps me from leaving the country.
