Defense against a headlock

See, **this** is what I like about martial arts: the clever application of body mechanics.

I doubt I ever would have come up with this myself.

Also -- the instructor is from Australia! :)

Two things:

1. I just figured out that you have a blog. Consider yourself added to my RSS feeds.

:-)

2. Nice video. That instructor fails to mention something about that escape. Namely, there are pressure points in the side of the neck. If you post with that "frame" and grind the wrist joint into the right spot, it might make for a second or two of distraction which could also help with the escape.

My fav headlock escape is this:

1. Turn into the choke
2. Rake eyes with high hand
3. Grab attackers groin with low hand

(do 2&3 and the same time)

If all that failed you probably could transition into the escape in the video you feature.

Bob,

RSS: Hey, thanks! :)

Headlock escape: A useful addition.

Related to that: During my all-too-brief exposure to Shaolin Five Animals style, we learned a headlock escape similar to what you've stated, although we were told to slap the inside of the thigh. After practicing this a few times, I asked for clarification on the slap: were there some sort of pressure points there?

The instructor looked confused, then said that it was actually supposed to be a groin strike: we were just being considerate of our training partners. AHHH...!!!

Good thing I asked, though.
